Some of Carl Frazier’s earliest memories of growing up in Florence involve Oregon Pacific Bank.

“I remember coming to visit grandma,” he recalls.

His grandmother, Linda Frazier, was an operations supervisor when the bank opened in Florence in 1979, beginning a family tradition of being a part of the OPB family. Carl’s sister, Gail Statler, works in the loan department, and his mother-in-law, Dea Ann Frazier, who is in the Trust Services department, encouraged Carl to apply for a position when there was an opening.

“I’m so glad I listened,” he says. “To be an employee here and be a part of it, it’s an awesome feeling.”

Carl started as a teller in 2014 and is now the Merchant Services Program Director in Florence. He helps our clients set up and manage credit card processing terminals and website pay systems. It keeps him busy.

Carl enjoys helping our customers troubleshoot any issues as they come up, often in person. That limits downtime to minutes instead of days when compared to other processors—a big advantage that only a local merchant services provider can offer.

“You don’t get that kind of service anywhere else,” Carl says.

Building relationships with people makes for better business and a stronger community, he says. “That’s the part I love about this job, being part of a community bank that offers that kind of personal service. You know the person that you’re dealing with—our customers appreciate that.”

Florence is great not only because of the people but its recreational opportunities, as well. Carl gets out as often as he can. “When I’m not here at work, I’m either out watching my son doing sports, doing photography or fishing.”

Carl has taken up sports photography and enjoys following his son’s teams. He also helps his wife run the snack shack and grill burgers and hot dogs at baseball games. He is also the current Treasurer of the Siuslaw Athletic Booster Club.

Whether it’s through athletics or his job at the bank, Carl is enjoying getting to know more people in his hometown. He says he even enjoys a little notoriety.

“I’ll be at the store or somewhere and they’ll say, ‘Hey, you’re Carl from the bank,’” Carl says with a bit of a laugh. “I say, ‘Yes, that’s me.’”
