Justin Miller | Trust Officer

Justin MillerJustin Miller identified a need in his community and resolved to fill the gap. He wanted his son and other youth to have the opportunity to play organized sports, which Justin enjoyed growing up, so he helped launch youth football and track teams to give kids a chance to participate.

“The first year, we had 30-35 kids come out for track,” Justin says. “It’s all volunteers who put it together. It’s been fun.”

Having the opportunity to make an impact and get involved in his community are some of the many reasons Justin enjoys living in Myrtle Point, which he has called home all his life. After serving in the position of Coos Bay Branch manager for many years, today, Justin works as a Trust Officer with our Coos Bay Trust Services Team. He joined OPB around 2011, after spending five years at another banking institution.

“I’ve always been interested in finance,” Justin says. “I like being at a small community bank. We get to know all our clients personally. We greet you by your first name.”

That kind of familiarity has benefits, he says. “We know you, know everything about your business. We help clients achieve their goals.”

On the weekends, when he’s not coaching or attending sporting events with his son, Justin helps out at his father’s construction business, which will be handed down to Justin’s brothers. Family is a big part of his life, and Justin enjoys their regular get-togethers.

In line with helping kids succeed in sports, Justin looks out for their academic interests by serving on the Myrtle Point School Board. He’s also sat on the City of Myrtle Point Budget Committee and served on the board of the United Way of Southwestern Oregon.

Justin says he appreciates the support he receives from OPB that allows him to be involved in organizations that foster community. OPB was at the forefront of efforts during the pandemic to get loans to businesses under the federal Paycheck Protection Program that helped protect thousands of jobs.

“A lot of the bigger banks weren’t helping right away,” he says. “We assisted a lot of people, including new customers, by helping them and talking them through the process.”

Along with a full slate of online banking offerings, as well as trust and wealth management services, the PPP loans were another example of how OPB steps in to meet the needs of the community when larger institutions fall short.

“Even though we are small, we offer everything the large banks offer and more,” Justin says.
