09/22/2017: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Receives over $40,000 from Light the Grill Fundraiser
Eugene local, Jeff Gusinow, celebrated the success of his 7th annual BBQ fundraiser Light the Grill, hosted in partnership with Oregon Pacific Bank. The fundraising event was held on September 8th at Alton Baker Park in Eugene, Oregon. Approximately 300 local community members attended Light the Grill to enjoy barbeque lunch, coffee, ice cream, live music, and to bid on over 100 community donated silent auction items and prize drawings.
This year, the total funds raised from donations, ticket sales, and silent auction items was $40,512, compared to roughly $33,000 from last year’s event. Through the support of family, friends, and the surrounding community, Jeff Gusinow has raised over $200,000 for the local chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society over the past seven years.
“I am humbled by the generosity of our community,” Jeff Gusinow said in response to this year’s event. “I am forever grateful for the help I have received. Together, we have set a record amount of money raised to fight blood cancer, making a real difference in the lives of our friends and family battling with leukemia and lymphoma. The love and support shown by our community and the success of Light the Grill continues to fill me with hope.”
Jeff Gusinow, Senior Vice President and Professional Banking Team Leader at Oregon Pacific Bank, has been instrumental in establishing and sustaining Light the Grill, along with local Oncologist Dr. Jeff Sharman. Mr. Gusinow was inspired to launch this local fundraising event after he was diagnosed with a non-curable form of Lymphoma over ten years ago. Committed to raising both money and awareness, he has been featured in an LLS national advertising campaign, having been selected as one of nine survivors in the inaugural kickoff.
The next big event for the Oregon chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the Light The Night Walk, which will be held at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in Portland, Oregon on October 14th. The Light The Night Walk raises funds for patient treatments and blood cancer research. Those interested in continuing to support blood cancer research and patient support can make a donation or register for Light The Night at www.lls.org/oregon-sw-washington-idaho-montana-chapter.
Those in the community suffering from blood cancer are more than welcome to reach out to Jeff Gusinow at any time for advice and support. Jeff can be found at Oregon Pacific Bank’s Eugene Office on Oak Street, or at 541-636-4804.
